Application

Ytterbium (II) iodide can be used to prepare highly isotactic polyacrylonitrile resin. The process involves dissolving ytterbium (II) iodide catalyst, 2-bromopropionitrile initiator, acrylonitrile monomer, and 2,2'-bipyridine ligand in N,N-dimethylformamide, and carrying out atom transfer radical living polymerization. The product is then washed with concentrated hydrochloric acid, precipitated, filtered, and dried to obtain polyacrylonitrile resin.
