5-Norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylic acid monomethyl ester is used as a monomer or co-monomer in the synthesis of specialty polymers. The norbornene group can undergo Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization (ROMP) to create polymers with unique thermal and mechanical properties.
