General procedure for the preparation of 2-(3-(4-chlorophenyl)pyrrolidin-3-yl)ethanol: Lithium aluminum hydride (1.35 g, 35.56 mmol) was added to a solution of 4-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-oxopyrrolidin-4-ethyl (1.0 g, 3.56 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (20 mL) under nitrogen protection. The reaction mixture was heated under reflux conditions with stirring for 18 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction was quenched by slow addition of water (7 mL) and 2N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (5 mL). The reaction mixture was diluted with dichloromethane, dried by adding anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and filtered to remove the solid. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give the crude product. The crude product was washed twice with ether and azeotroped with dichloromethane to give 2-(3-(4-chlorophenyl)pyrrolidin-3-yl)ethanol as a white solid (700 mg, 88% yield).1H-NMR (CD3OD) δ: 7.30 (4H, m), 3.30 (3H, m), 3.10 (2H, m), 2.90 (1H, m), 2.10 ( 2H, m), 1.90 (2H, m). Mass Spectra (m/z): 226, 228 (MH+).
