1,3-Dihydroxyacetone Dimer is used in the synthesis of dihydropyrimidine calcium channel blockers. Also used in the preparation of a new antineoplastic and antifilarial agents as anticancer agents.

Nitric acid esters such as 1,3-dinitratoacetone and 2,5-bis(nitratomethyl-2,5-nitrato)-1,4-dioxane.
