Preparation

Methoxymethyl phenyl sulfide can be prepared by condensing thiophenol with chloromethyl methyl ether under base catalysis or by condensing thiophenol with dimethoxymethane under boron trifluoride ether catalysis.

General Description

Meisenheimer rearrangement of methoxymethyl phenyl sulfoxide to methoxymethyl benzenesulfenate has been reported. Methoxymethyl phenyl sulfide undergoes solvent free permanganate oxidation to yield methoxymethyl phenyl sulfone.
