Colorless needle-shaped crystals. Melting point 105.5°C, relative density 1.558 (12/4°C). Soluble in benzene and acetone, slightly soluble in hot water and ethanol.

Purification Methods

Crystallise the anisole from aqueous EtOH. The naphthalene complex has m 50o (from EtOH). [Beilstein 6 H 254, 6 III 858, 6 IV 1372.]
