Uses

2-Methylallyl Iodide is used as a reactant in the preparation of chroman-substituted, tetrahydroquinoline-substituted and thiochroman-substituted ureas and thioureas for their use as anticancer agents.

Application

Methallyl iodide is an unstable but highly reactive alkylating agent that attacks C, N, and S nucleophiles; the products are susceptible to addition reactions, especially electrophilic reactions in C=C systems.

Preparation

Methallyl iodide is prepared from Methallyl Chloride by reaction with Sodium Iodide in acetone, MEK,  or DMF.

storage

Sensitive to light and heat; prepare as required; decomposes  appreciably after a few hours. Use in a fume hood.
