Chemical Properties

Chemical Properties

Cl2O7 is also known as dichlorine heptoxide. It is obtained as a colorless oily liquid by dehydration of perchloric acid using a strong dehydrating agent such as phosphorus pentoxide, P2O5.

Uses

Catalyst in cellulose esterification.

Safety Profile

An explosive sensitive to impact or rapid heating. Explodes on contact with iodine. Mixtures with bromine pentafluoride are shock-sensitive explosives. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of Clí. See also PERCHLORATES
