Uses
4-(chloromethyl)-2-methylpyridine hydrochloride is a pyridine derivative that is a component in the synthesis of various organic compounds. Chemical Properties
4-(chloromethyl)-2-methylpyridine hydrochloride is a colourless to light yellow crystalline solid with a melting point of 155-156°C and a boiling point of 277-278°C, a density of 1.22 g/cm3, a refractive index of 1.551, and pKa values of 2.31 and 7.61. It is very soluble in water, Soluble in methanol, ethanol, chloroform and dichloromethane.
Biological Activity
4-(chloromethyl)-2-methylpyridine hydrochloride has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumour properties. It has been investigated as a potential treatment for various diseases, including cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
