Application
Tetrafluoroethylene has a strong contact toxicity and an excellent knockdown effect on mosquitoes. Its insecticidal toxicity is more than 17 times that of dextromethorphan, and it can effectively control mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and whiteflies.
Chemical Properties
Tetrafluoroethrin industrial product is light yellow transparent liquid, boiling point is 110℃(0.1mPa), flash point is 138.8℃, melting point is 10℃, relative density d428 is 1.5072, insoluble in water, soluble in organic solvents. Stable in neutral and weak acidic medium, but can be decomposed by strong acid and strong alkali, sensitive to ultraviolet ray.
Synthesis
The synthesis of Tetramethylfluthrin is achieved through the mono-etherification of 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoroterephthalyl alcohol with methyl chloride under alkaline conditions to yield 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-4-(methoxymethyl)benzyl alcohol; subsequently, 2,2,3,3-tetramethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid is converted into its more reactive acid chloride form, which then undergoes an esterification reaction with the aforementioned benzyl alcohol intermediate in an anhydrous solvent in the presence of triethylamine; finally, the target product is obtained following washing, concentration, and purification via vacuum distillation or column chromatography.
