Radium Iodide Chemical Properties,Usage,Production
Description
This compound has the molecular formula of RaI2
and a molecular weight of 479.834 g/mol. Its CAS
number is 20610-52-0. It can be prepared by reaction of
the metal with hydroiodic acid:
Ra+2HI→RaI2+H2
Little is available concerning its physical or chemical
properties. As with radium fluoride, no scientific studies
are easily accessed. Its structure has not been determined.
RaI2 is not offered for sale to the general public.
Reactions
Hypochlorous acid is a weak acid where the chlorine
atom is in the +1 oxidation state and has the
formula HClO. It forms when Cl2 dissolves in water.
It cannot be isolated in pure form due to rapid equilibration
with its precursor. Addition of chlorine to water gives both hydrochloric acid (HCl) and hypochlorous acid:
Cl2+H2O→HClO+HCl
