Uses
Tetrabutylammonium salicylate is an organic-inorganic compound commonly used as a catalyst and chemical reagent. It can be used to catalyze or promote certain chemical reactions, and is widely used in medicine, cosmetics and surfactants. In addition, this compound is also used as a substrate or intermediate in some biochemical reactions.
Synthesis
Tetra-n-butylammonium salicylate was prepared as follows: 3.20 g of sodium salicylate and 5.56 g of tetra-n-butylammonium chloride were put into a reaction flask, then 30 ml of ion-exchanged water and 30 ml of methylene chloride were added and stirred for 1 hour, and then stood in order to ion-exchange the organic layer washed with water twice. Then, the dichloromethane was removed under reduced pressure and concentrated to dryness to give tetra-n-butylammonium salicylate.
