Uses
(2R,3R)-2,3,4-Trihydroxybutanoic acid, also known as erythronic acid, is a naturally occurring organic acid found in the aqueous humor of the eye, as well as in urine, plasma, cerebrospinal fluid, and synovial fluid, prevalent in both healthy adults and children; it is produced through the oxidation of GlcNAc.
Definition
ChEBI: D-erythronic acid is an erythronic acid in which the stereocentres at positions 2 and 3 both have R-configuration (the D-enantiomer). It is a conjugate acid of a D-erythronate. It is an enantiomer of a L-erythronic acid.
Biological Activity
Erythronic acid is a sugar component of aqueous humour (eye). Erythronic acid is a normal organic acid present in a healthy adult and pediatric population and has been found in urine, plasma, CSF, aqueous humour (eye) and synovial fluid. Erythronic acid is formed when GlcNAc is oxidised.
