General procedure for the synthesis of 4-phenylsulfonylbenzylamine from compound (CAS:102467-02-7): compound 16d (1.56 g, 4.14 mmol) was suspended in anhydrous ethanol (25 mL) and hydrazine hydrate (0.52 mL, 16.56 mmol) was added. The reaction mixture was stirred under reflux conditions for 3 hours. After completion of the reaction, the solution was concentrated by evaporation under reduced pressure and the crude product was dissolved in dichloromethane (100 mL) and washed with 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide (100 mL). The aqueous layer was then extracted with dichloromethane (50 mL), the organic layers were combined, washed with water, dried with anhydrous magnesium sulfate and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated by evaporation under reduced pressure to give 4-benzenesulfonylbenzylamine (compound 16e) in 94% yield as a white solid.1H NMR (DMSO-d6) δ 7.92-7.86 (m, 4H), 7.60-7.51 (m, 5H), 3.92 (s, 2H). Mass spectrometry (MS) showed the molecular ion peak m/z 248 (M+H+).
