Uses

Ethyl 4-(4-hydroxy-azobenzene)benzoate is an organic intermediate that can be prepared from ethyl p-carbamate and phenol via a diazotization reaction. Ethyl 4-(4-hydroxy-azobenzene)benzoate can be used as a monomer for preparing a liquid crystal polymer containing azophenyl side chains with a microphase-separated structure.

Application

Ethyl 4-(4-hydroxy-azobenzene)benzoate can be used as an initiator to synthesize a photoresponsive polyamino acid. In recent years, research on photoresponsive polyamino acids has received considerable attention. Compared to other stimuli, light has certain advantages in terms of time and space. By adjusting various parameters of the photostimulation (such as light intensity, wavelength, and irradiation time), the behavior of the polymer within the system can be controlled outside the reaction system.
