Uses

allo-Inositol is a biochemical reagent that can be used as a biological material or organic compound for life science related research.

Definition

ChEBI: Myo-inositol is an inositol having myo- configuration. It has a role as a member of compatible osmolytes, a nutrient, an EC 3.1.4.11 (phosphoinositide phospholipase C) inhibitor, a human metabolite, a Daphnia magna metabolite, a Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolite, an Escherichia coli metabolite and a mouse metabolite.

Synthesis

The conversion of isoinositol diboronate to isoinositol is accomplished by hydrochloric acid-mediated hydrolysis. The process generates two equivalents of sodium chloride and boric acid. The reaction was carried out in 10 volumes of 1NHCl at 85-95C, followed by crystallization to give isoinositol in 60-65% yield and >99.9% purity (HPLC).
