Uses

2-Amino-6-methyl-5-chloropyridine is an organic intermediate that can be obtained by chlorination of 2-amino-6-methylpyridine.

Synthesis

A solution of 6-methylpyridin-2-amine (10.80 g, 100 mmol) in 60 mL of dry DMF was added dropwise to a solution of NCS (13.4 g, 100 mmol) in 60 mL of dry DMF over a period of 20 min at 0°C. The solution was then stirred for 1 h at room temperature. The resulting tan solution was stirred at 0C for 1 hr and at room temperature for 3 hr, then poured into 300 mL of ice water. The resulting mixture was extracted with EtOAc, washed with water and brine, dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated. The residue was purified by column chromatography to give 2-amino-6-methyl-5-chloropyridine.
