Synthesis

To a mixture of manganese (II) sulfate monohydrate (1.5 g, 9 mmol, 1.0 eq) and 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione (5.0 g, , 27 mmol, 4.0 eq) in water (30 mL) and methanol (6 mL) was added dropwise a concentrated ammonia solution (12 ) at room temperature. 27 mmol, 4.0 eq) in a mixture of water (30 mL) and methanol (6 mL) were added dropwise to a concentrated ammonia solution (12 ), resulting in an immediate decrease in the amount of ammonia in the mixture. mL), resulting in the immediate formation of a dark olive green/brown precipitate.
