Uses

Intermediate in the preparation of nitro substituted quinazolones.

Synthesis

Step 1: 2-cyano-4-nitroaniline (25.39 g) was mixed with concentrated sulfuric acid (70 ml) and the reaction was stirred at 130 °C for 40 min. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was quenched by slowly pouring it into ice water. Subsequently, the precipitated solid product was collected by filtration and washed sequentially with water, ethanol and ether to give 2-amino-5-nitrobenzamide (24.63 g).
