The general procedure for the synthesis of (R)-piperidin-2-ylmethanol from the compound (CAS:154499-13-5) was as follows: carbon-loaded palladium (500 mg, 10 wt%) was added to a solution of benzyl ethyl acetate (70 mL) of (2R)-2-(hydroxymethyl)piperidine-1-carboxylic acid (5.00 g, 20.06 mmol) and stirred at room temperature in a hydrogen atmosphere reaction mixture for 4 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was filtered and the filtrate was supplemented with new carbon-loaded palladium catalyst (300 mg). The reaction was continued with stirring under hydrogen atmosphere for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered again and the filtrate was evaporated to give a brown oily crude product. The crude product was purified by Kugelrohr distillation to give the final (2R)-piperidin-2-ylmethanol (1.51 g, 65% yield). The product was characterized by 1H NMR (CDCl3) with the following chemical shifts: 3.53-3.48 (m, 1H), 3.36-3.31 (m, 1H), 3.02 (d, 1H), 2.61-2.53 (m, 2H), 2.35 (s, 2H), 1.75-1.73 (m, 1H), 1.56-1.47 (m, 2H). 1.40-1.25 (m, 2H), 1.14-1.03 (m, 1H).
