Description
Perfluorodecalin (PFD) is a chemically and biologicallyinert biomaterial and, as many perfluorocarbons, is alsohydrophobic, radiopaque and has a high solute capacity forgases such as oxygen.
Perfluorodecalin is a fluorocarbon and derivative of decalin, and used in cosmetics and beauty products as to dissolve and deliver oxygen to the skin in formulas (Wikipedia). It is also used as a skin conditioning agent, detangler, and solvent in some formulas. Perfluorodecalin's ability to dissolve oxygen is thought to revitalize skin and reduce wrinkles, increasing the partial pressure of oxygen (pO2), according to research.
Some studies have shown that formulas that include Perflurodecalin improve the skin's barrier function resulting in increased moisturizing efficacy. However, there are no studies to prove that added oxygen can actually repair wrinkled skin or prevent lines from forming. Conversely, too much oxygen can enhance the number of unstable oxygen molecules which cause free radical damage.

Uses
Perfluorodecalin is a fluorous solvent generally used as a primary component of the fluorous biphasic system (FBS) or the fluorous multiphasic system (FMS) in synthetic chemistry. It is also used as an additive to increase oxygen solubility in fermentation media.
Uses
Perfluorodecalin is used as a building block reagent as well maintains ability to dissolve gases such as oxygen and increase oxygen to a location allowing for medicinal uses such as preserving tissue after pancreas transplants.
Definition
ChEBI: Perfluorodecalin is a fluorocarbon that is decalin in which every hydrogen is replaced by fluorine. Capable of dissolving large quantities of oxygen, it has been used as the basis of an artificial blood substitute. It has a role as a blood substitute and a solvent. It derives from a hydride of a decalin.
Safety Profile
Poison by intravenous route. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic vapors of Fí.
Synthesis
Perfluorodecalin preparation: (1) 400g of egg yolk phospholipids and 400mg of sodium cholate were added into 8.5L Lactated Ringer's solution, and stirred well to produce the phospholipid dispersed phase; (2) 2.5kg of perfluorodecalin was added into the phospholipids dispersed phase, and stirred vigorously for 30 minutes to produce crude perfluorodecalin emulsion; (3) the crude perfluorodecalin emulsion was added into a stirring tank over a double valve of 50MPa to emulsify. 50MPa double valve for emulsification, first fix the second layer valve to keep the pressure at 10MPa, then fix the first layer valve until the pressure rises to 50MPa, keep the temperature at 50??5??, until a stable emulsion is obtained; (4) After the above emulsion is divided into reagent bottles, sterilize and disinfect it at 100?? for 30 minutes, that is to say, the content of perfluorodecalin in the above emulsion is 27.3%, the particles in the emulsion ??0.3um, the average size of the particles is 0.16um.
