Procedure: general procedure for the synthesis of 4-(4-methanesulfonyl-piperazin-1-yl)-aniline from 4-(4-nitrophenyl)-1-methanesulfonyl-piperazine. Step 1: 10% Pd-C (100 mg) was added to a methanolic solution of 1-(4-nitrophenyl)-piperidine-4-carboxylic acid amide (350 mg, 0.0035 mol) at room temperature and hydrogen gas was passed. The progress of the reaction was monitored by thin layer chromatography (TLC, unfolding agent 5% methanol:chloroform). Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was filtered through diatomaceous earth and the filtrate was concentrated to give 270 mg (86% yield) of 4-(4-methylsulfonyl-piperazin-1-yl)-aniline.
