Uses
(Carboxymethyl)oxamic Acid Diethyl Ester, is an intermediate in various chemical synthesis. It is used in the preparation of 5-alkoxyoxazoles, used in Diels-Alder process.

Example 2 II: Compound 4 was prepared using ethyl glycinate hydrochloride and ethyl oxalyl chloride monoethyl ester as starting materials with reference to the literature (J. Heterocycl. Chem. 1995, 32, 1693-1702).Subsequently, the reduction reaction was carried out using the NaBH4/LiCl system in ethanol solution. Further oxidation by Dess-Martin oxidizer gave the target aldehyde 6 in 25% overall yield (two-step reaction).
