Description
Octenyl succinic anhydride is an important intermediate of fine chemicals. It has high chemical reactivity because its molecules contain carbon-carbon double bonds and carboxylic acid ligands. Under appropriate conditions, a series of reactions such as addition, Chemicalbook substitution, reduction, acetylation, hydrolysis and polymerization can occur, and various derivatives can be synthesized. Alkyd resin can be synthesized by reacting with alcohol, acid amine can be synthesized by reacting with amine, and starch can be modified.
Uses
Octenyl succinic anhydride can be used to esterify starch to yield a hydrocolloid with amphiphilic properties, octenyl succinylated starch (OS-starch). Octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA) modification affects the interaction between molecules on the outer surface of two starch granules by changing the molecular structure of the outer surface.
Application
Octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA)-modified starch is a common, environmentally friendly and safe emulsifier widely used in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.
Synthesis
Maleic anhydride reacts with a monoolefin under heat to give a new unsaturated dibasic carboxylic anhydride, a reaction known as an alkylation or enolization reaction, which occurs on the unsaturated carbon atom of the allyl group, and which results in the formation of a new bond between the 2 unsaturated carbon atoms, with the hydrogen atom of the allyl group being added by ring transfer to the other unsaturated carbon atom of the olefinic affinity. This experiment was carried out in a temperature-controlled reactor equipped with a stirrer, and a certain amount of MA and 1-octene was added as the reaction raw material, and heated stably with the addition of additives. Under certain conditions of the reaction system, the reaction was kept warm, and finally the transparent yellow oily liquid product could be obtained by distillation under reduced pressure. Separation and purification: the crude product from the high-pressure reactor, after taking out the clarified brown-yellow oil, first filtered, washed, dried and distilled under reduced pressure. Decompression distillation, control the temperature rises slowly, in the decompression of 98 kaP, the beginning of (47 earth l) fraction drops out, may be unreacted olefins; in the decompression of 95-98 kPa, the collection of 165-220 fraction for the yellow oil and amber, that is, for the purpose of the product 2-octenyl succinic anhydride.
