DIMETHYL TIN DIFLUORIDE Chemical Properties,Usage,Production
General Description
White crystals or white chunky solid.
Air & Water Reactions
Insoluble in water.
Reactivity Profile
An organometallic. Strongly reactive with many other groups. Incompatible with acids and bases. Organometallics are good reducing agents and therefore incompatible with oxidizing agents. Often reactive with water to generate toxic or flammable gases. Organometallics containing halogens (fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine) bonded to the metal typically with generate gaseous hydrohalic acids (HF, HCl, HBr, HI) with water.
Fire Hazard
Flash point data for DIMETHYL TIN DIFLUORIDE are not available; however, DIMETHYL TIN DIFLUORIDE is probably combustible.
Safety Profile
Poison by intravenous route. See also TIN COMPOUNDS and FLUORIDES. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of F-.
