Gentiopicroside is an anticonvulsant agent present in plant extracts.

Biological Activity

Gentiopicroside is an important active component of secoiridoid glycosides from Gentiana macrophylla Pall th at exhibit anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and liver protecting activities. Gentiopicroside protects chondrocytes from IL-1β-induced inflammation response.', 'Gentiopicroside possesses analgesic, anti proliferative, wound healing and antioxidant properties (free radical scavenging activity). Gentiopicroside shows low oral bioavailability, hence it establishes its therapeutic action after metabolism.

in vivo

Gentiopicroside (20, 40, and 80 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly reduces gastric ulcerindex in mice. Gentiopicroside (20, 40, and 80 mg/kg) also ovbiously decreases the levels of HSP-70, TNF-α, IL-6, MDA and increases ncreased GSH level and SOD activity. In addition, Gentiopicroside normalizes EGF and VEGF level in mice^[2].
