Uses

5,7-Dihydro-indolo[2,3-b]carbazole could be a useful thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitter for making efficient OLEDs.

Synthesis

4′,6′-Dinitro-1,1′:3′,1′′-terphenyl 27.5 g (86 mmol) in a 1 L reactor,57.8 g (348 mmol) of triphenylphosphine,300 mL of dichlorobenzene was added and the mixture was stirred under reflux for 3 days. After completion of the reaction, dichlorobenzene was removed, and the residue was separated by column chromatography to obtain 10.8 g 5,7-Dihydro-indolo[2,3-b]carbazole (Yield 49.0%)
