Description

A Rauwolfia alkaloid present in R. serpentina, this base yields colourless crystals from either EtOH or AcOEt and has [α]³²_D- 34.7° (EtOH). It forms a series of well crystalline salts including the hydrochloride, m.p. 195°C (dec.); hydrobromide, m.p. 2S0-loC (dec.); hydriodide, m.p. 263-6°C (dec.) and the nitrate, m.p. 236-7°C (dec.).
