Water-white liquid; mild ammoniacal odor. Soluble in most organic solvents; somewhat soluble in water. Combustible.
Uses
Synthesis, emulsifying agent.
Definition
ChEBI: 1-phenylethylamine is a phenylethylamine that is ethylamine substituted by a phenyl group at position 1. It has a role as a human metabolite.
Hazard
Toxic by ingestion.
Safety Profile
Moderately toxic by ingestion andskin contact. A skin and severe eye irritant. When heated to decomposition it emits toxicfumes of NOx.
Toxics Screening Level
The initial threshold screening level (ITSL) for dl-alpha phenylethylamine is 0.04 μg/m3 based on an annual averaging time.
