Biological Activity

Docosyl ferulate is a protocatechuic acid analogue. It inhibits tyrosinase (an enzyme that catalyses the conversion of tyrosinase into melanin) and has anticancer activity in vitro. It inhibits the growth of cancer cells by binding to the receptor protein CXCR4 on the surface of tumour cells. The compound also inhibited angiotensin II-induced elevation of blood pressure in rats, probably due to its ability to inhibit tyrosine kinase activity. In addition, Docosyl ferulate has been shown to inhibit growth factor beta (GFβ) and cell proliferation in human skin cells.
