Synthesis
Iodinated-3,3?@-diethyl oxa-tricarbonyl cyanine was prepared as follows: two equivalents of active quaternary 1-ethyl-2-methylbenzothiazolium bromide and one equivalent of ethyl orthoformate were heated in pyridine to 110??C for one hour. The magenta solution was cooled to room temperature and extracted with ether to give a solid residue. The crude dye was dissolved in dichloromethane and placed on a column (Woelm 32-36) equipped with silica and eluted with a methanol-dichloromethane:dichloromethane mixture under moderate pressure. The final iodinated-3,3?@-diethyl oxa-tricarbonyl cyanine.
