Preparation

(E)-1-nitroprop-1-ene was obtained by dehydration of 1-nitro-2-propanol using methanesulfonyl chloride and triethylamine (yield 30%), acetic anhydride-AcONa (yield 85%), or phthalic anhydride (yield 55%).

Safety Profile

A poison by inhalation. Whenheated to decomposition it emits toxic vapors of NOx.
