DODECYLTRICHLOROSILANE Chemical Properties,Usage,Production
Description
Dodecyl trichlorosilane is a colorless to yellowliquid with a pungent odor. Molecular weight= 303.81;Boiling point= 149℃; Flash point=65℃. HazardIdentification (based on NFPA-704 M Rating System):Health 3, Flammability 1, Reactivity 2 (water reactive).Potential Exposure: This material is used in silicone polymer manufacture.
Chemical Properties
Colorless to yellowish transparent liquid
General Description
DODECYLTRICHLOROSILANE is a colorless to yellow liquid with a pungent odor. DODECYLTRICHLOROSILANE will burn though DODECYLTRICHLOROSILANE may take some effort to ignite. DODECYLTRICHLOROSILANE is decomposed by moisture or water to hydrochloric acid with evolution of heat. DODECYLTRICHLOROSILANE is corrosive to metals and tissue.
Reactivity Profile
Chlorosilanes, such as DODECYLTRICHLOROSILANE, are compounds in which silicon is bonded to from one to four chlorine atoms with other bonds to hydrogen and/or alkyl groups. Chlorosilanes react with water, moist air, or steam to produce heat and toxic, corrosive fumes of hydrogen chloride. They may also produce flammable gaseous H2. They can serve as chlorination agents. Chlorosilanes react vigorously with both organic and inorganic acids and with bases to generate toxic or flammable gases.
Health Hazard
Inhalation irritates mucous membrane. Contact with liquid causes severe burns of eyes and skin. Ingestion causes severe burns of mouth and stomach.
Chemical Reactivity
Reactivity with Water Generates hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid); Reactivity with Common Materials: Reacts with surface moisture to generate hydrogen chloride, which is corrosive to most metals; Stability During Transport: Stable; Neutralizing Agents for Acids and Caustics: Flush with water, rinse with sodium bicarbonate or lime solution; Polymerization: Not pertinent; Inhibitor of Polymerization: Not pertinent.
Safety Profile
Poison by intravenous, intracervical, and intraperitoneal routes. Experimental teratogenic and reproductive effects. Human mutation data reported. A neurotransmitter. An adrenergic agent. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of NOx.
Potential Exposure
Emetine dihydrochloride is a colorless, combustible powder which turns yellow on exposure to heat orlight. Molecular weight= 553.63; Boiling point = 600C;Freezing/Melting point = 235-250C (decomposes); Flashpoint= .310C. Hazard Identification (based on NFPA704 M Rating System): Health 3, Flammability 0,Reactivity 0. Soluble in water
First aid
If this chemical gets into the eyes, remove anycontact lenses at once and irrigate immediately for at least15 min, occasionally lifting upper and lower lids. Seek medical attention immediately. If this chemical contacts theskin, remove contaminated clothing and wash immediatelywith soap and water. Seek medical attention immediately. Ifthis chemical has been inhaled, remove from exposure, begin rescue breathing (using universal precautions, including resuscitation mask) if breathing has stopped and CPR ifheart action has stopped. Transfer promptly to a medicalfacility. When this chemical has been swallowed, get medical attention. If victim is conscious, administer water ormilk. Do not induce vomiting. Medical observation isrecommended for 2448 h after breathing overexposure, aspulmonary edema may be delayed. As first aid for pulmonary edema, a doctor or authorized paramedic may consideradministering a corticosteroid spray.
Shipping
Dodecyl trichlorosilane requires a shipping labelof “CORROSIVE.” It falls in Hazard Class 8 and PackingGroup II.
