1-HYDROXYPHENAZINE Chemical Properties,Usage,Production
Uses
Hemipyocyanine (1-hydroxyphenazine) is a simple phenazine metabolite produced by several species of Pseudomonas and Streptomyces. Hemipyocyanine exhibits broad spectrum activity with weak antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral activity. In the search for novel actives, hemipyocyanine and related phenazines are important dereplication standards to eliminate leads due to high amounts of weakly potent actives. Hemipyocyanine plays an important role in the biocontrol of plant diseases by some Pseudomonas strains.

Hemipyocyanine is a phenazine metabolite and important dereplication standard.

Purification Methods
Purify the hydroxyphenazine by chromatography on acidic alumina with *benzene/ether and recrystallise it from aqueous EtOH, *benzene/heptane, then sublime it at 140o/1.5mm. [UV, IR: Badger et al. J Chem Soc 3204 1951, Hegedüs Helv Chim Acta 33 746 1950, Beilstein 23 II 360, 23 III/IV 2753.]
