STRONTIUM TELLURIDE Chemical Properties,Usage,Production
Description
Strontium telluride has the molecular formula of SrTe
and the molecular weight of 215.2238 g/mol. It can be
prepared by heating the elements together in an inert
atmosphere:
Sr+ Te+ heat ? SrTe
Te melts at 450 °C and Sr melts at 778 °C. A heating
temperature of 750 °C is sufficient to cause complete reaction.
SrTe powder can also be prepared by the reaction of
stoichiometric quantities of Sr and Te in a pure graphite
crucible in vacuum at 480 °C during 48 h. Its molecular
weight is 166.58 g/mol. Strontium telluride has the CAS
number of 12040-08-3. It is a white, crystalline solid with
a density of 4.83 g/cm3. It has the rock salt structure
with octahedral coordination of the Sr2+
cation. Its refractive
index is 2.408. If heated to 1605 °C, it decomposes.
Pb1-xSrx
Te films were prepared by hot-wall epitaxy on
BaF2(111) substrates. X-ray diffraction analysis, optical
transmission measurement, Hall measurement and
EPMA were performed on the films. It was observed
that the increasing rate of the lattice constant of the Pb1-
xSrxTe films with the SrTe content was considerably larger
than that estimated from Vegard’s law. Pb1-xSrxTe/PbTe
double-heterostructure (DH) and multiple quantum well
(MQW) lasers were also prepared for the first time by
hot-wall epitaxy. Pulsed laser operations were obtained
up to 227 K (4.1 μm) for the DH laser and up to 220 K
(3.5 μm) for the MQW laser. Large output energy shifts
due to misfit strain in the active layer were observed.
Strontium telluride is not used in industry for any
purpose and the scientific literature concerning it has
been very scattered.
