ChEBI: 1-hexadecyl-2-[(8Z,11Z,14Z)-eicosatrienoyl]-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is a phosphatidylcholine O-36:3 in which the alkyl and acyl groups specified at positions 1 and 2 are hexadecyl and (8Z,11Z,14Z)-eicosatrienoyl respectively. It is a phosphatidylcholine O-36:3 and a 2-acyl-1-alkyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine. It is functionally related to an all-cis-icosa-8,11,14-trienoic acid.
Biological Activity
Phophotidylcholine (PC) is involved in maintaining the integrity of membranes. Increase in levels of PC is associated with increase in cell growth. It is necessary for the myelination of nerve cells and production of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) from hepatocytes.
