Nylon 12 Chemical Properties,Usage,Production

Description

PA 12 (also known as Nylon 12) is a good general-use plastic with broad additive applications and is known for its toughness, tensile strength, impact strength and ability to flex without fracture. PA 12 has long been used by injection molders due to these mechanical properties.

Synthesis

Nylon 12 (polyamide 12) is a significant component of tubings used in automotive brake and fuel lines. Nylon 12 has generally been produced from cyclododecatriene by converting the cyclododecatriene to laurolactam, which is a starting monomer for the industrial production of nylon 12. Cyclododecatriene may be made from butadiene as the raw material. One method for the production of butadiene that may be considered non-environmentally friendly is the production of butadiene derived from petroleum products.
