Definition

It has a role as a mouse metabolite and a Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolite. It is a N-(1,2-saturated acyl)sphinganine and a N-(very-long-chain fatty acyl)-sphingoid base. It is functionally related to a tetracosanoic acid.

Biological Activity

Dihydroceramide acts as a precursor for ceramide synthesis. It has an ability to induce autophagy in the perinuclear region. Dihydroceramide affects autophagic flux and enhances the formation of lipid droplets.
