Synthesis

Platinum dibromide can be obtained by heating platinum tribromide at a partial pressure of 1.01×105pa of bromine to more than 405C, or by heating the nine hydrate of hexabromoplatinum(iv) acid to 280C. Platinum tribromide can be obtained by heating platinum tribromide above 405C at a partial pressure of bromine of 1.01×105pa, or by heating a hydrate of hexabromoplatinum(iv) acid hydraxide above 280C.
