Uses

Pyropheophorbide-a (Ppa) is a photosensitizer used in photodynamic therapy (PDT) for tumors. Pyropheophorbide-a exhibits phototoxic effects on tumor cells, such as cervical cancer cells, and also has anti-lipogenesis activity. Pyropheophorbide-a shows potential for research in the fields of cancer and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Pyropheophorbide-a derivatives also demonstrate inhibitory activity against tumor cells[1][2][3][4].

Definition

ChEBI: Pyropheophorbide a is a pheophorbide. It is a conjugate acid of a pyropheophorbide a anion.

in vivo

Pyropheophorbide-a (1.25 or 2.5 mg/kg, i.v., administration period of 6 hours) exhibits anti-tumor activity in the C57BL/6 mouse model with TC-1 tumor implanted in the peritoneum[4].

Animal Model:C57BL/6 mice model
Dosage:1.25 or 2.5 mg/kg
Administration:intravenous injections (i.v.), 6 h
Result:Resulted in rapid shrinkage of tumors after irradiation. While tumors treated with the same amount of Ppa-only (no irradiation) showed a slow growth
