Uses

(dimethanesulfinylidene)amine is a useful reactant for the synthesis of N-sulfenyl sulfoximines derivatives and as well as useful for N-thioetherification of NH-sulfoximines.

Synthesis

Dimethyl sulfoxide (1.0 g, 12.8 mmol) was added to methanol (50 ml), followed by PhI(OAc)2 (12.4 g, 38.4 mmol) and ammonium carbamate (4.0 g, 51.2 mmol). The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. After the reaction was complete it was concentrated and the residue was separated by column chromatography (eluent: dichloromethane/methanol) to give the compound dimethylsulfinimide (1.01 g, yield: 85%).
