Description
BODIPY-cholesterol is a cell-permeable analog of cholesterol that is tagged with BODIPY group. BODIPY-cholesterol mimics the membrane partitioning and trafficking of cholesterol, and it is often used to study the sterol distribution and transport in living cells.
Uses
TopFluor Cholesterol forms a complex with other lipid molecules during its macroscopic diffusion in giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) lipid bilayers at room temperature. It is also a new cholesterol probe with superior fluorescence properties. TopFluor Cholesterol is the derivative of Cholesterol (C432501), which is the principal sterol of the higher animals and found in all body tissues, especially in the brain, spinal cord, and in animal fats and oil.
Biological Activity
BODIPY labelled cholesterol has similar properties to th at of the na?ve cholesterol. This serves as a cholesterol marker for live cells and aids in trafficking intracellular cholesterol. It might also help in indicating lipid storage diseases.
