Uses

2,6-Dimethylphenylpropionate is used as an intermediate in the Saliniketal A, B formal synthesis desymmetrization.

Preparation

2,6-Dimethylphenyl Propionate is prepared in excellent yield by the reaction of the sodium or lithium salt of 2,6-dimethylphenol with propionyl chloride.[1a,1b]

General Description

2,6-Dimethylphenyl Propionate is a lithium, titanium, and zirconium enolates used in the stereoselective synthesis of anti or syn β-hydroxy acid derivatives.
