Synthesis

0.2 moles of diethyl sebacate were added to 0.816 moles of 85 % hydrazine hydrate mixed with 50 ml of anhydrous ethanol within 1.5 h. The feed temperature was kept at about 70 ??C, and the reaction was carried out at 75 ??C for 4 h. The reaction was cooled down to 5 ??C to give diethyl sebacate hydrazide, 42 g. The product had a melting point of 185 ??C, and the yield was about 91.3 % (on the basis of the ester).
