POLYBROMINATEDDIPHENYLETHER Usage And Synthesis
Biological functions
Reduced serum thyroxine levels and thyroid follicular cell hyperplasia were observed in rats and mice orally exposed to lower brominated PBDE mixtures.PBDE congeners BDE-19 and -10 inhibit AR binding.BDE-99 treatment during pregnancy reduced the estradiol-17β and testosterone levels in male offspring in rats, and affected the progesterone and estrogen receptor (ER)-α and -β levels in the uterus of female offspring.
Description
PBDEs are organobromine compounds used as flame retardants, and they show antiandrogenic and antithyroid activities.
Physical properties
Molecular formula C12H(10- x)BrxO. Soluble in acetone and benzene.
