White crystalline powder, odorless, insoluble in water and ethanol, decomposed in nitric acid and hydrochloric acid solution, completely decomposed in oxalic acid solution, insoluble in sulfuric acid, but heated together with dilute sulfuric acid, most of the calcium iodate is converted into calcium sulfate and iodic acid.
