Chemical Properties

Brown powder. Soluble in water, no change in color when hydrochloric acid is added to the aqueous solution; the color becomes lighter when sodium hydroxide is added. Greenish yellow in concentrated sulfuric acid, color unchanged after dilution. When stained with copper and iron ions, the color and luster become dark.

Properties and Applications
