PANACENE Usage And Synthesis
Synthesis
Since the isolation of the marine brominated propadiene natural product Panacene, its total synthesis has been achieved using a variety of different strategies. One noteworthy approach is the biomimetic bromination of cyclized hydroxyenyne precursors, initially reported by Feldman and colleagues, used to determine the relative configuration of this molecule. In recent years, several highly stereoselective total synthetic methods, such as the one reported by Alnafta, typically employ convergent synthesis strategies to construct complex tricyclic core structures. This strategy generally involves a key step of introducing the characteristic brominated propadiene moiety followed by a final cyclization to form a fused furanobenzofuran ring system.
