Potassium hexafluorotitanate Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
White leaflets. Soluble in hot water.
Uses
Titanic acid, titanium metal.
Uses
Potassium hexafluorotitanate is used as analytical reagent, alloying additive, flame retardant and flux agent for casting. It is also used in the manufacture of titanium acid and aluminum alloys containing titanium. It is also employed in metal surface treatment and finishing, detergent applications and dental impression molding. Further, it is used as a catalyst for polypropylene synthesis. In addition to this, it is used in the extraction-refining-processing of metals, electrical-electronics engineering, textile processing and in ceramics-glass industries.
Hazard
Toxic material.
Flammability and Explosibility
Non flammable
reaction suitability
reagent type: catalyst
core: titanium
Materials Uses
Potassium hexafluorotitanate (K2TiF6) is a wettability agent, commonly used in the fabrication of Aluminum Matrix Composites (AMCs). During the casting process, argon shield gas is applied throughout the process, and 1 wt% K2TiF6 wettability agent is added into alloy[1].
Safety Profile
Poison by subcutaneous route. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of K2O and F-. See also FLUORIDES.
