OCTYL CINNAMATE Usage And Synthesis
Uses
OCTYL CINNAMATE has been suggested for use in perfume compositions, and it has occasionally been used in heavy Oriental fragrance types such as "Shamilar” types, where Castoreum, Opopanax and heavy-sweet wood odors are connected to rich, sweet florals with a strong emphasis upon balsamic fixative notes, also including Vanillin.
Preparation
By azeotropic esterification of n-Octanol with Cinnamic acid. Also by alcohol interchange reaction with Methyl cinnamate.
